Frederick Lothrop Ames, Jr. (1876–1921) was the great-grandson of Oliver Ames, who established the Ames Shovel Company. He was the second son of Frederick Lothrop Ames and Rebecca Caroline (Blair) Ames, and went by the name "Lothrop." The Ames were a wealthy family in Massachusetts and were fairly prominent in 19th century New England society. Frederick was a graduate of Harvard and had interests in the family shovel business as well as railroads, banking, and the breeding of Guernsey cows. He built a 50-room mansion in 1905 on his estate in North Easton, Massachusetts that would later become the campus of Stonehill College. ==References==
